The creation of New Year's resolutions are a yearly staple as we pledge to start anew with our mindset and goals. However, the ability to remain true to these intentions fall short between the second and third week of January as we return to old habits and our comfort zones. The idea of failure can also creep in to defeat the process before we even get started with writing down the plan.

Want to actually achieve your resolutions this year?

One of the setbacks can lie in the desire to have a major transformation without acknowledging the steps it will take to achieve the goal. For example, vision boards offer a physical reminder of our happy places. However, without the planning for or thinking through the smaller steps to achieve each vision, it can become something that is just pretty to look at. For example, check out the vision board below. There is so much going on that it can be difficult to focus on a specific goal.

Instead, if we divide our intentions into smaller and more digestible sections of time then we can up the “ante” for achievement. To do this, apply the following steps:

1. List your long-term goals that can be achieved in 6 months to a year.

2. List the intermediate steps (completed in 3-6 months) required to achieve each long-term goal.

3. Repeat step 2 for the short-term (completed in 1-3 months) that feed into both the intermediate and long-term goals.

4. Pace yourself.

While achieving your goals also takes discipline, community support, and general motivation, the steps above offers a solid starting point. What are your New Year's Resolutions for 2022? Did you enact any of these steps in setting out to achieve your resolutions?
